Vervolgens werden in de winter de twee singels aangepakt. Aanvankelijk zouden bramen en opslag circa 1 meter rond de eikjes worden verwijderd, maar in de praktijk was de aanpak royaler. Bramen en opslag werden met wortel en al verwijderd. Oudere opslagbomen werden met de motorzaag geveld. Met als resultaat: volop licht voor de eikenboompjes en herkenbare singels. In drie werkdagen werden de singels hersteld in de situatie van 1850. Daarnaast werd ook op andere locaties storende wildgroei verwijderd, met als resultaat een transparanter beeld.’
De Wijkerslooth is verrast door de ‘massale’ aanpak van de ploegen. ‘Als eigenaar ben je natuurlijk de eerste vrijwilliger op het landgoed. Maar je bent alleen, soms met wat hulp van vrienden en kinderen. Daarentegen heeft zo’n ploeg een enorm potentieel. Vele handen maken licht en vlot werk, dat is hier zeker van toepassing. Ik zal dan ook beslist nog eens een beroep op de Landschapsbeheerploeg doen. Last but not least omdat de administratieve afwikkeling snel en soepel is verlopen.’
